Candidates applying to study in Polish shall confirm their knowledge of the Polish language by:

  • a certificate of completion of a one-year preparatory course in Polish in an institution selected by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) or in an institution designated by the minister responsible for higher education at min. B2 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR);
  • Polish language certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language at min. B2 level of CEFR;
  • a certificate confirming knowledge of Polish language at min. B2 level in the meaning of the CEFR issued by a language school or another institution providing Polish language courses;
  • a certificate or diploma obtained in the Polish educational system in which the study was conducted in Polish;
  • a certificate, diploma or other document confirming the graduation from a secondary school abroad in which classes were conducted in Polish;
  • a diploma or other document confirming the status of the winner/finalist of the Grodno Historical Competition "History of Poland".

Foreigners who intend to undertake studies in Polish and do not have the aforementioned confirmation of their proficiency in Polish take the Polish language examination at UPH, consisting of a written and an oral part, within the time limit specified in the recruitment schedule.

The obligation to take the examination also applies to foreigners applying for admission to first-cycle or long-cycle studies in the field of study where a mandatory Polish language mark is required, but who do not have this mark on their secondary school certificate. In this case, the grade from the examination is taken into account.
